Red Cross Blood Drive at CCA Thursday

Cancellations of blood drives in states affected by Hurricane Sandy have caused a shortfall.

The Red Cross is conducting blood drives in Oakland and other unaffected areas as blood donation services in Hurricane Sandy's path have been halted by the storm.

Locally, the Red Cross will hold a blood drive Thursday, Nov. 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the California College of the Arts, 5212 Broadway, Oakland.

You may also donate blood six days a week at the Red Cross Oakland Blood Donation Center, 6230 Claremont Ave. Donation hours are Tuesday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Friday, Saturday and Monday, 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The Red Cross said that 100 blood drive cancellations in 11 East Coast states have resulted in a shortfall of 3,200 blood and platelet donations already. All blood types are needed, officials said, but especially types O-positive, O-negative, A-negative and B-negative blood.
