Restaurant Watch: Wine Shop and Tasting Bar to Open in September

The Barrel Room will specialize in small-production wines by the glass.

The Barrel Room, a wine bar that's made its mark in San Francisco over the past two years, will open in a second, larger location at 5330 College Ave. this fall.

The owners hope to open in mid-September, co-owner Sarah Trubnick told Rockridge Patch on Monday.

Trubnick and business partner Carolyn Johnson are certified sommeliers, and in San Francisco they have focused on offering small-production wines by the glass.

The Rockridge location will be similar, but bigger, with an associated wine shop and more food served, Trubnick said.

She said The Barrel Room will offer about 50 wines at a time by the glass, with a rotating list that will change every six weeks. Food will include cheeses and charcuterie.

The Barrel Room will be just down the block from A16, another San Francisco success story that recently added a Rockridge location when it opened at 5356 College, between Manila and Bryant avenues.
