OPD Arrests Youth After iPhone Robbery

Officers captured the suspect after a foot chase near Piedmont Avenue.

Oakland police arrested a male juvenile shortly after a man reported being robbed of his cell phone near Pleasant Valley Road and Howe Street, Oakland, according to an Oakland Police Department bulletin.

The announcement said patrol officers were flagged down Dec. 21 at 8:30 a.m. in the 1900 block of Pleasant Valley Road by the victim, who was able to describe the robber and point out the direction in which he had fled.

The officers located the suspect, but when they attempted to detain him, he fled on foot, the OPD said. Officers were able to catch the suspect and recover the victim’s iPhone, police said.

The suspect, who is a male juvenile and an Oakland resident, was arrested on suspicion of robbery, police said. Officers said the suspect also matched the description in another attempted iPhone robbery the previous day.
