Oakland Unified Will Eliminate Adult Education

The school board voted 5-1 Wednesday to drop adult ed programs, including GED and English as a Second Language.

Oakland Unified School District will eliminate adult education programs, the district school board decided Wednesday night, according to an article in the Oakland Tribune.

Some programs, such as General Education Development (GED) and English as a Second Language, may return under the auspices of the Peralta Community College District, under a new budget plan by Gov. Jerry Brown.

Other programs, though, are likely gone forever.

The move will save the district about $1 million, the Tribune says.
