On Your Mark, Get Set, You're Done: 'Shortest Duathlon Ever' This Saturday

The race in Emeryville this Saturday is so short, anyone can do it.

Press Release From BOSS Foundation:

Come out and join the other triathlon first-timers, as well as some short-timers and long-timers with the BOSS Foundation's seventh annual Shortest Duathlon Ever.

This duathlon will be held on Saturday morning, April 13, in Emeryville. Due to a delayed construction completion date of the Emeryville Swimming Pool, the annual Sprint Triathlon had been changed to a Sprint Duathlon — this year only. We promise this once-only event will be fun and exciting, just not as wet.

Presented by the City of Emeryville, the Emeryville Chamber of Commerce, and On Your Mark Events, proceeds from The Shortest Duathlon Ever will benefit the health and fitness programs for the students of the Emery Unified School District

This is a perfect event for everyone to knock out their first multi-sport event of 2013 – or the first one in their life. Multi-sport veterans also like to use this event to clear the “winter cobwebs” and prepare for their upcoming sport season.

The ultra-sprint duathlon course includes:

  • 1 mile: fun run, from City Hall through Emeryville and back to CIty Hall.
  • 2.5 mile Bike, a flat course to the north side of Emeryville.  Riders will depart Park Ave. and proceed to Horton Street, go north of Horton Street to 65th Street, turn around, and head back down Horton to reach City Hall. (CPSC approved bike helmets must be worn and buckled.)
  • 2.1 mile Run: flat course from City Hall, racers will run down Park Avenue, over the 40th Street bridge, through the Bay Street Mall for some early morning window-shopping, and back to City Hall to the finish line!

The Shortest Duathlon Ever is an opportunity to raise money to fund specific fitness programs administered by the Emery Unified School District and the Emery Ed. Fund.

The event’s producers feel it's important for Emeryville's students start a fit lifestyle early in life and to continue a healthy fitness pattern for the rest of their lives.  This event reaches out to students, and provides exposure to healthy dietary and exercise habits early in life.

Entry fee for adults (19-years and over) is $55 pre-registered, $60 day-of registration.  Bay Area students (18-years and under), cost is $40 pre-registered, and $45 day-of registration. Online registration deadline is April 11, and envelope postmark paper registration deadline is April 8.
