UPS, FedEx Package Thefts Increase in Oakland Hills

The OPD problem-solving officer for Upper Rockridge warns of a rise in the number of packages being stolen from front porches.

The following message comes from Officer Jason Trode, the Oakland Police Department's problem solving officer for Upper Rockridge and other parts of the Oakland hills. 

It's addressing a recent problem in the Montclair area, but a good reminder for nearby neighborhoods too.

I just wanted to update you on a slight trend of theft occurring on beat 13X.It appears that UPS and FED EX packages are being stolen off the property of the recipients.

There may be a possibility that these suspect(s) are following the trucks and waiting/watching the delivery.
There may be a possibility that these suspect(s) are following the trucks and waiting/watching the delivery.A few things that may help in preventing these type of incidents from happening in your neck of the woods.

—If a package is being delivered, have a neighbor/friend retrieve the package.
—Leave a note to delivery person NOT to leave package on property.
CALL, CALL, CALL all suspicious persons and vehicles!
